A Message from Our CEO
After more than forty years as Cascade AIDS Project, we are excited to announce that we are now CAP Northwest. This change has been years in the making, shaped by our staff, our board, and the communities we serve across Oregon and Southwest Washington. It reflects how much our work has grown while honoring the history that built us.
When we began, we were a community's response to the HIV epidemic. That work remains at the heart of who we are. Over the decades, the people we serve have asked more of us, and we've grown to meet them: affirming medical care through Prism Health, residential care through Our House, HIV & STI prevention, harm reduction, mental health, and community support across the region. CAP Northwest brings all of our work together under one umbrella of care.

About Our Name
-
Yes, we are now CAP Northwest. For more than forty years, you've known us as Cascade AIDS Project, or simply CAP. CAP Northwest is our new parent name, and it brings all of our work together under one comprehensive brand.
-
Not at all. Cascade AIDS Project is our history and our foundation, and we carry it forward with deep respect. CAP Northwest reflects how much our work has grown since 1983, while honoring where we began. You may still see "formerly Cascade AIDS Project" alongside our name during this transition to help people make the connection.
-
The name reflects both where we began and who we've become. It honors our legacy while embracing the full breadth of our work across Oregon and Washington. And at the center of it is a truth that has always defined us: CAP is committed to Caring About People.
About Your Care
-
No, the people who provide your care, the services you rely on, and the places you receive them remain exactly the same. The only thing we changed is creating a new parent brand that brings our programs, services, and work together.
-
Yes. CAP, Prism Health, and Our House will continue exactly as you know them, with the same teams, services, and care. CAP Northwest is the parent name that now connects them under one family of brands.
-
No, there’s nothing you need to do today beyond getting used to hearing our new parent brand name and seeing it on our print and digital materials. If you're a client or patient, your care continues uninterrupted. If you're a volunteer, partner, or supporter, your relationship with us continues just as it had previously.
About the Change
-
This change has been years in the making, shaped by extensive input from our staff, our board, and the communities we serve. Our work has grown well beyond what our original name could capture, and a new fiscal year gave us a natural moment to step into a name that reflects everything we do today.
-
For years, our name told only part of our story. People who could have accessed our healthcare, housing, or support services often didn't realize those services were available to them, and that was critical to address.
A clearer name also helps funders and partners understand the full scope of what we do, which brings more resources to the communities we serve. Through a thoughtful, phased approach, we completed the work internally to ensure it was done right. It’s an investment that makes care easier to find, trust, & sustain.
-
Our new parent brand name and the thinking behind it were shaped through surveys, conversations, focus groups, and workshops with our staff, board, volunteers, donors, and hundreds of community members we serve. The people who built who we are helped shape who we're becoming.
About the Process
-
Today, you'll see our new name take its place first, across our communications and online. Our refreshed visual identity, the look and feel that carries the name forward, will roll out gradually over the coming months, with everything in place by early 2027.We're moving step by step, with care, because this work deserves to be done well.
-
Over time, yes. Our refreshed visual identity will include a new brand family that ties all of our programs, service, and events together in a cohesive family. This will help ensure that no matter how you meet us, you can easily and quickly know you are welcome and receiving the best possible care at CAP Northwest.
-
We're rolling out the new identity thoughtfully rather than all at once, and ensuring we use all existing materials before ordering new ones to minimize waste. During this transition, you may see a mix of new and familiar branding. That's expected, and everything will come together over the coming months.
-
We'd love that! In the months ahead, we'll be inviting community members,
clients, and supporters to take part in focus groups and feedback sessions as our
visual identity comes to life. If you'd like to be part of that process, let us know by
sending a message to comms@capnw.org.
About the Logistics
-
Yes, CAP Northwest is a registered business name (DBA) of the same organization you've always supported, registered with the Oregon Secretary of State and the IRS. Our legal entity and Tax ID have not changed. Your gifts, recurring donations, and pledges remain in place, and there's nothing you need to update.
-
No, you won’t need to change anything. Because our legal entity remains the same, existing bequests, planned gifts, and legacy commitments remain valid. If you'd like to update the language in your plans to reflect our new name, we're happy to help, but it isn't required. Please reach out to Matthew Carron at mcarron@capnw.org with any questions.
-
Thankfully no! We mentioned it briefly earlier, but this work began years ago. When we moved to our current domain name, we knew our impact in the Pacific Northwest would shape our next chapter. Our current Web URL https://capnw.org will continue to be where you can find all the information about CAP Northwest, and all staff emails will continue to use the ending “@capnw.org”

We’re just a call, text, or email away! If you have any questions about this new name, our visual updates on the horizon, opportunities to get involved with or support CAP Northwest, or anything else, please reach out to the CAP Northwest Communications Team:
