Kevin Bumatay Named Chief Executive Officer of Cascade AIDS Project
Cascade AIDS Project is pleased to share an important leadership milestone: Kevin Bumatay has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2026.
Kevin’s appointment marks a moment of continuity, trust, and forward momentum for CAP—one shaped by a thoughtful, inclusive search process and guided by the voices of staff, leadership, and community.
For the past six months, Kevin has served as Interim Co-CEO, helping guide the organization through a period of transition while ensuring stability across CAP’s programs, services, and partnerships. Prior to that, he served as CAP’s Chief Financial and Operating Officer, strengthening the organization’s operational foundation and people-centered practices. In each role, Kevin has demonstrated steady leadership rooted in transparency, collaboration, and care.
A Leader Shaped by Mission and Community
Kevin brings decades of leadership experience across nonprofit and public-sector organizations, with a career grounded in systems thinking, equity, and public service. Before joining CAP, he served as Chief Financial Officer and Interim Co-Executive Director at Ecotrust, where he helped lead the organization through a period of transition and opportunity. His public-sector experience includes senior leadership roles at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where he supported the funding and implementation of the Affordable Care Act, as well as leadership positions at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Portland Bureau of Transportation, and the U.S. Navy.
Yet Kevin’s leadership is defined not only by experience, but by how he shows up—thoughtful, transparent, and deeply committed to the people behind the work.
“CAP’s mission is deeply personal to me,” Kevin shared. “I believe that when we invest in strong systems and in the people who carry our mission forward, we create conditions where communities can truly thrive.”
Why This Moment Matters
CAP’s Board of Directors undertook a rigorous, months-long search process, informed by staff engagement, feedback, and shared values. That process affirmed what many within the organization already knew: Kevin’s leadership reflects the clarity, steadiness, and vision needed to guide CAP through its current complexities and into its next chapter.
“Kevin has consistently demonstrated thoughtful, transparent leadership and a deep understanding of CAP’s mission and community,” said Kris Young, President of CAP’s Board of Directors. “His ability to lead with integrity, coupled with his operational expertise and strategic perspective, make him uniquely suited to lead the organization forward.”
Honoring Leadership Through Transition
CAP’s Board also extends its gratitude to Kristi Addis, who served alongside Kevin as Interim Co-CEO during the leadership transition, and to the Executive Leadership Team for their continued guidance and stewardship. This period of shared leadership helped ensure continuity of services and reinforced CAP’s commitment to transparency, collaboration, and care—for staff, clients, and community alike.
Looking Ahead
Founded in 1983, Cascade AIDS Project is one of the Northwest’s leading providers of HIV prevention and care, supportive housing, and LGBTQ+ health services. CAP’s integrated, person-centered approach advances health equity, strengthens community connection, and ensures that people have access to care rooted in dignity and respect.
As CEO, Kevin will continue working alongside CAP’s staff, board, partners, and community to build on this legacy—strengthening access to care, deepening partnerships, and ensuring CAP remains a place of stability, belonging, and care.
Additional opportunities to welcome Kevin into his new role and engage with CAP’s leadership will be shared in the coming weeks.
